The Session of the Cleveland Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, 101 Maple Street, Cleveland, North Carolina 27013 is fully satisfied with your ministerial qualifications to lead and assist us in the fulfillment of our corporate and individual ministries and hereby contracts with you, Reverend to become the Interim Stated Supply Pastor/CRE for the period of time (not to exceed 12 months) from _______________ to Contract will be renewed on an annual basis.

During this timeframe, we expect you to perform the following services and demonstrate people skill sets and attributes/characteristics:

1. Serves as a biblically scriptural based moderate Pastor who has credentials of good standing and is considered an outstanding role model who demonstrates leadership skills and possesses personal characteristics of being a loving, strong, caring, enthusiastic, positive can do attitude, who is supportive, outgoing, flexible and adapts to the times. Is considered a caring teacher (relating scripture to todays issues) who possesses nurturing pastoral care skills and who is considered a good listener with social skills demonstrates selfless devotion to the church and its congregation. Perceived as a person who is a God calling Minister having energy, who is focused, demonstrates selfless devotion to encouraging neighbors to practice their faith. Increases the churchs congregation by supporting the vision and mission of the church and initiatives identified by the session to reach out to the community (our neighbors) coupled with characteristics that will grow our congregation. Has good communication skills both written and verbal, a good historical background education, and experience as a spiritual leader. Can direct youth and young adult programs and possesses extensive knowledge of the Book of Order and Presbytery regulations and procedures.

2. Supports the churchs present and future Vision and Mission statements and initiatives/actions identified in the session study required by the Presbytery COM and approval by them before hiring.

3. Conducts worship every Sunday from 11:00-12:00 PM during contract period with exception of 4 bonus days where as Permanent Supply Pastor will make arrangements for a Supply Pastor off the list at the Presbytery. Notify the churches Treasury of this action and the Treasury will pay the temporary Supply Pastor $150 for providing Service that Sunday the Permanent Supply Pastors takes personal leave.

4. Fulfills the following pastoral duties:

a. Provides personal support to each member of the congregation by contacting or visiting them personally during their time of need especially during a crises situation concerning e.g., illness, divorce, or death.

b. Conducts weddings and funerals involving congregation members.

c. Seeks out opportunities to encourage neighbors who have just moved into the community who dont have a church to attend church services and activities. Contact inactive or potential members moving in the neighborhood or who dont have a Minister or when a church closes, or pursue other avenues to help grow the congregation.

5. Serves as Moderator over the Session:

a. Provides leadership, direction, support, service, stewardship to the Session addressing necessary actions required concerning the maintenance of the church, educational hall and especially the Post Office and occupants of these buildings needing maintenance or repairs requiring a group consensus or majority approval to resolve the situation and address approval of funding requiring operational expenses and identify this amount to the Treasury to write the check.

b. Get approval from the Session and Clerk of Session for dispersing quarterly donations ($400) to the community concerning worthy causes and socio economic needs in supporting local family tragedy (e.g. fire caused not only loss of house but life); supporting West Rowans Bible Study; West Rowan ROTC; Salem Presbytery; and Rowan Helping Ministries (Christmas time). Support other church initiatives that have been identified by the session to help move the church forward in increasing the Congregation members.

c. Supports camaraderie of congregational members by holding at least one social function a year to encourage participation of the church family usually conducted in Educational Hall Building.

d. Serves as the Moderator of the Session at the minimum of 4 times per year (Quarterly).

6. Other responsibilities:

a. Conducts Candlelight (Christmas) Service on 21st December (Saturday) at 6:30 each year where service is held followed by a social gathering.

b. Ensures the pianist (accompanist) has backup substitute if she needs a personal day. Consult with her about hymns to be played on Sundays to include Candlelight Service or any other music support needed to attract future congregation members. Clerk of Session will assist in coordination of the church bulletin as well.

c. Participates and attend the Cleveland Christmas Parade (first Friday in December at 1:00 PM) and represent the Cleveland Presbyterian Church as our Pastor along with volunteers helping to decorate and throw out candy. We have a stand program already in place that supports this endeavor to include transportation, candy, and decorations.

7. Special skills and/or training:

a. Uses an existing bulletin template as a guideline to be able to produce and print the Sunday Service Bulletin prior to the next Sunday. Determine your Sermon Title, scripture(s) to be read, Call to Worship, Prayer of Confession, Assurance of Pardon along with identifying hymns (familiar) in coordination with your accompanist (pianist) and Clerk of Session. The Bulletin serves as the order of service for the congregation to use during Sunday worship.

b. Attends annual training to hone educational skills where the church will supplement these fees in the amount of $300 to support this Minister position.

8. After conference with representatives of the Committee On Ministry (COM) and with you, the Session identifies the following short-term key objectives for your work in the congregation. These items require your immediate attention.

a. Continues maintenance work on the Churchs Chapel, Educational Hall, Educational Hall Building and most important Is our clients who work at the Post Office Building who the Church has a contract with because it is our building. These maintenance issues require immediate attention and impromptu sessions requiring prior approval whether a physical meeting or coordination and vote through using email to facilitate the repair.

b. Contacts previous members of the church and potential neighbors in the community to encourage them to join in and attending Sunday Services.

c. Addresses pertinent matters of the church requiring leadership skills in providing direction and approval.

d. Nurtures and provides encouragement to your congregation members in times of crisis whether it is just verbal or if they would like you to be there and support them in their time of crisis by going to the hospital or to their home. Engages their presence when attending church and shows concern through prayer and personal interaction. Holds session if need be to solicit support of personal crisis if solution requires resources involving the church.

9. Session estimates that fulfilling these part time duties will take a total of 12 hours each week (10 hours devoted to marketing and Pastoral care and two hours developing the church bulletin.

The Session will maintain its individual and corporate duties in the government and discipline of the congregation and oversight of the Church's spiritual interests.

The Session promises and obligates itself to provide you with the following REMUNERATION:

1. The Interim Stated Supply Pastor/CRE will receive $1,085.80 a month that amount includes ($300 training dispersed throughout the year). This amount covers Sunday Services conducted between 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM; travel expenses; 4 bonus personal days off where the church will pay for a substitute Pulpit Supply Pastor for his/her part time services of $150 (includes mileage reimbursement fees covering travel); traveling fees; moderating Session when required; and Candlelight Service; and wedding and funerals for members only. When member/congregation increase in size along with contributions to the coffers then terms will be adjusted accordingly. The salary was computed on $20.40 an hour, 12 hours a week (2 hours preparing bulletin and 10 hours devoted to increasing congregation through marketing and Pastoral care); 624 hours a year ($12,729.60 a year/plus $300 training=$1085.80 a month ($13,029.60 a year). Yearly salary will increase $100 each year when contract is renewed plus will receive standard social security cost of living increase. These terms maybe negotiable based on experience and education qualifications. Part time salary (works a minimum of 12 hours per week).

2. The church will reimburse for needed supplies such as PC(USA) operational books used to conduct services based on prior approval by session and cost of inks and paper supply for producing paper.

6. Either party may dissolve this contract with 30 days written notice to the other party.

When the church does not have a Pastor, or while the Pastor is unable to perform his or her duties, the Session should obtain the service of a minister of this denomination in a temporary pastoral relation. Temporary pastoral relations are those of Stated Supply, Interim Pastor or Temporary Supply. A minister serving in a temporary pastoral relationship is not eligible to become the next installed or designated Pastor, except as Presbytery may choose to allow a Temporary Supply to become the next installed Pastor by a 2/3 vote of the Presbytery. (G.14.0551). All temporary pastoral contracts must be approved by the Committee on Ministry. (G.14.0550)

A STATED SUPPLY is a minister appointed by the Presbytery, after consultation with the Session, to perform the functions of a Pastor in a church. The relation shall be established only by Presbytery and shall extend for a period not to exceed 12 months at a time. A Stated Supply shall not be re-appointed until the Presbytery, through its Committee on Ministry, has reviewed his or her effectiveness.

An INTERIM SUPPLY PASTOR is a minister invited by the Session to preach the Word, administer the Sacraments, and fulfill the duties for a specified period not to exceed 12 months at a time, while the church is seeking a Pastor. The Session cannot secure an Interim Supply Pastor without seeking the counsel of Presbytery through its Committee on Ministry.

A TEMPORARY SUPPLY may be a Minister, a Candidate or an Elder secured by the Session to conduct services when the Pastor is unable to perform pastoral duties. The Session shall seek the counsel of Presbytery through its Committee on Ministry before securing a Temporary Supply. Ordained Ministers of other Christian churches may be employed by the Session of a particular church in a TEMPORARY SUPPLY relationship, provided that such Minister present to the Presbytery his/her credentials of good standing in the ecclesiastical body to which he/she belongs, and provided that ecclesiastical body gives its approval to the Temporary Supply relationship. A temporary pastor is not installed and is not a member of the Session. The Presbytery shall appoint a moderator of the Session who may be the temporary pastor. (G.14.0550)
